PRODUCT TEST PLANS

Product test plans are necessary in identifying the Regulatory Standards and needed testing that a product must comply with for full regulatory requirement conformance. Thus, the legal technical requirements for market entry are defined by the Regulatory Standards to ensure safe and reliable product operation in the product's intended operating environment, and by Industry Standards, which define interoperability requirements for the product, thus meeting or exceeding the end users expectations.

In today's regulatory environment, most of the technical EMC requirements are the same or very similar and based on a single international standard. For instance, almost all EMC Emission requirements are based on the international CISPR standards. However, a particular country's regulatory requirements may impose additional requirements. Also, as different countries have differing accreditation requirements for test laboratories, a test lab should be chosen that has suitable accreditations for the country(ies) for which approvals are required. Testing should be planned so that the minimum amount of testing is performed to address the regulatory requirements for all of the Target Countries.

Your Strategic Partner

RPQ Consulting can define Product Test Plans for Information Technology Equipment (ITE), Telecommunication Terminal Equipment (TTE) and Radio Equipment (Intentional Radiators).

Key Issues in Defining a Product Test Plan

  • What are the intended target countries?
  • What is the intended operating environment?
  • What are the target countries' specific regulatory requirements?
  • What are the external communication interfaces?
  • Has the product been adequately designed to satisfy the regulatory requirements?
  • What are the EMC Regulatory Standards for the target countries?
  • What are the Product Safety Regulatory Standards for the target countries?
  • How will the product be pre-tested/evaluated to all applicable Regulatory & Industry Standards?
  • How can the number of pre-test configurations be minimized?
  • What Test Software configuration will be needed to conduct pre-testing?
  • For TTE, which network interfaces does the product support in each targeted country?
  • What features does the end user expect the product to support?

What RPQ Consulting can do for you

  • Assess how your product will be classified in each target country.
  • Determine the product's intended operating environment.
  • Assess the product design to ensure regulatory standard conformance before formal testing.
  • Identify the specific Regulatory Standards that your product must meet.
  • Define a single test plan which summarizes all applicable Standards for the targeted countries.
  • Identify countries that have similar Standards.
  • Assist your staff in setting up an Engineering EMC and/or Product Safety Test Laboratory.
  • Coordinate critical pre-testing.
